  • How does the Louisiana Cultural Economy Foundation-Healthcare Initiative (LCEF-HI) work?

LCEF-HI gives you clinic options and resources depending on where you live and what difficulties you are having. You make the ultimate decision about which choice is right for you. LCEF-HI wants you to have the best help in the area closest to your neighborhood. And, just like the hometown doctors of the past, we believe having a personal relationship with a primary doctor is vital.

  • What kind of help does the LCEF-HI provide?

Step by step, we help you get to your appointment by providing contact information and directions for your chosen clinic. We help you determine what paperwork to bring in order to get the lowest affordable fee for your visit. We will also remind you about your appointment and follow up with you after your visit.  LCEF-HI staff will do their best to remove barriers and guide you along the path to good health.

  • What if I am not sick now— should I still register?

Yes. LCEF-HI conducts numerous health screenings during the year throughout the state. We also send out email newsletters with tips for your wellbeing. In addition, we provide timely notices concerning potential health threats such as the flu, and how to get free or low cost assistance in your area.

  • What kind of health screenings do you offer?

LCEF-HI believes prevention is the best way to keep you healthy and creating.  We go onsite at festivals, backstage at concerts, in restaurants or anywhere our cultural workers are to check for three major prerequisites to bad health: blood pressure (stroke), blood sugar or glucose (diabetes) and cholesterol (heart disease). Should the screenings indicate a treatment is required, LCEF-HI staff and our health professional partners are always ready to help you.

  • How do I find out about LCEF-HI health screenings?

LCEF-HI provides health screening dates in the Calendar and Healthcare Screenings sections of our website and we send email notices to our cultural worker database.

  • OK, I went to the doctor but now I cannot afford the prescribed medication, can you help me?

Yes. We know that seeing the doctor is only the first step. We also know that costly prescription medications can put a strain on your income. LCEF-HI can connect you with resources that provide free medications to uninsured or underinsured individuals. LCEF-HI is also a qualified screening site for all the major pharmaceutical companies so we can assist you in filling out the necessary forms.. We will work with your doctor to get them signed and have your medication sent to you.

  • Does the LCEF-HI serve all of Louisiana?

Yes. All Louisiana cultural workers are eligible and can be helped. Our current satellite offices serve the following parishes: Acadia, Allen, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron, Evangeline, Iberia, Jeff Davis, Lafayette, Rapides, St. Landry, St. Mary, St. Martin, and Vermilion. But even if you live you live outside these parishes, please, give us a call if you need help. We will work to connect you with health care resources across the state and will be able to assist you.
