This month's featured image by Michel Varisco entitled "Shifting," focuses on the Mississippi River Delta in Louisiana and explores the dynamic changes that are both natural and man-made. Michel is a native New Orleans artist. She will be exhibiting Shifting: Photographs by Michel Varisco at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, 925 Camp St. New Orleans, April 19-July 23rd. Opening reception: April 19th 2012 6 p.m. –8 p.m. Shifting is a photographic installation focusing on the Louisiana Wetlands and the Gulf of Mexico. Often through aerial views, the artist explored both the beauty and degradation of the region’s environment. By immersing the viewer in images of the wetlands, waterways and engineered landscapes of South Louisiana, Shifting is a call to action for the audience to become invested in the future of this threatened ecosystem. This month's featured image by Harriet Blum is "Palms", a black and white photograph hand tinted with transparent oils. Harriet is a fine art photographer from Covington, LA. Her work is known nationally and internationally and is featured in galleries, museums, hospitals, private collections and the Loews New Orleans Hotel. Harriet will be at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival the first weekend, April 27, 28 & 29, in the Contemporary Craft area. This month's featured image by Lafayette artist Amy Guidry is Untitled (Heads), acrylic on canvas. Amy is a contemporary, Surrealist fine artist specializing in painting. Her work has been featured in galleries, museums, and private collections across the United States as well as international publications, MTV, and the feature film "When Angels Sing." This month's featured image is "1614 Esplanade" by Greg Giegucz on paper with graphite and colored pencil. Greg is a founding member of the Greater New Orleans Artist Mansion and is a part-time instructor of art at New Orleans Artworks at the New Orleans School of Glassworks and Printmaking Studio. He most recently has been awarded the 2012 Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant. His solo exhibition of drawings will show in April 2012 at "Big Bunny Fine Art" on Exchange Ally in the French Quarter. This month's featured image "red weed leaf" is by Pamela Conway Caruso. It is a botanical monoprint from a series using tiny leaves from her garden. Pam is a Contemporary Fine Art Printmaker on exhibit at New Orleans ArtWorks. The botanical monoprints & monotypes are compositions of New Orleans foliage, inked and printed by hand on an etching press. This month's featured image by Sean Friloux is called “Flitter†and is one of a series of acrylic paintings immersed in nature, color and texture. The painting is 30†x 30†and was acquired recently by a private collector in New Orleans. In addition, Sean compliments his acrylic paintings with award winning watercolor paintings. This month's featured image by Dona Simons, "MJN Rouge" is one of the first in a new series in progress titled "Louisiana Guitarslingers." This series presents oil paintings of performances by contemporary musicians at unique Louisiana venues. Some of Dona's previous work may be seen at the Louisiana Music Factory and she also published a catalog of work titled "Art as Artifact" that is available for preview and purchase. This month's featured image, "Vision after the Sermon," is an acrylic painting by William Crowell. The painting is 48" x 24" and was recently acquired by the New Orleans Museum of Art for their permanent collection. William's work will be featured at the Crescent City Brewhouse until the end of this month and he will have a solo exhibition running September 1st through October 31st at the East Bank Regional Library, 4747 W. This month's featured image, "Devil's Pond in Autumn" by Gwen Voorhies, is an oil painting of a scene from the New Iberia City Park. She is currently showing at the Frame Shop Gallery and the Heymann Center for Performing Arts in Lafayette.
